About Aardvark Motorcycles of Sussex
Aardvark Motorcycles is a motorcycle dealer based in Sussex and was established in 1991 by James Powell. Jim is a lifelong resident of Hailsham East Sussex and has worked in the motorcycle industry since 1985.
I was introduced to motorcycles at the age 15 when I joined Hailsham School motorcycle road craft training and learnt to ride and maintain motorcycles. They had a fleet of old Suzuki B120s and a couple of 1974 CB125s. First bike at 16 was a unrestricted Suzuki AP50 which taught me how to rebuild engines.
1983 at 17 years old I saved up and spent all my saving on a brand-new Yamaha RD125LC £703 from Motcombe Motorcycles Eastbourne.
Started buying and selling motorcycles and the first bike I bought and sold was a Honda MBX125.
I did a little bit of stock car racing in the 1990s racing a Ford Escort Stock Rod at Arlington Raceway. I raced on a very tight budget and did all the mechanics myself and self-taught how to weld and set up a basic race car. Some years later I did some Go-kart racing with my sons racing Honda Cadets and Rotax Junior classes at Lydd Kart circuit in Kent.
I started Aardvark Motorcycles in 1991 from the current location. I have worked on most bikes from 1976-2021 and have a vast experience in Japanese motorcycles from the seventies up to today. I look back and wish I kept some of them. CBX1000, CB1100R, RD500LC, RG500, GPZ900R, GSXR750, GSXR1100, RS250, RGV250, KR1S 250, GPZ750 Turbo, Z900, Z1000, R1, Fireblade, Vmax 1200 and many more which have passed through my hands.
Customer satisfaction is Jim's goal, and keeping overheads low and giving good value is key to his success. Trading from an industrial unit rather than a High Street shop and keeping staff to a minimum has enabled him to focus on keen bike prices and quality service. Success has grown over the years as Jim's experience and reputation for fair dealing and good value has spread throughout the South East and beyond.
We do not pressure customers or give the hard sell because it is more important to me that you are sure that your purchase is exactly right for you. We are open most week days and Saturdays but view by appointment only. At times I do have to leave the premises to view and purchase motorcycles, hence the need for appointments for viewings. We buy motorcycles and are always looking for more stock.
